Oncology. Abbr. PNET. An embryonal tumor deriving from inmature cells of the nervous system with elements of neuronal and/or glial differentiation. Primitive neuroectodermal tumors occur in the brain (medulloblastoma) and in sites outside the brain such as in the limbs, pelvis, and the chest wall. The tumors arise mainly among children and tend to be highly malignant.
