Neurology. The non-neuronal supportive tissue of nerve tissue, forming the Schwann's sheath. Glia cells do not conduct electrical impulses, they fulfill sustaining, exchange and phagocytic functions. In the brain, the glia represents one component of the blood-brain barrier.
