Medical engineering. The pacemaker code is written in a five-letter format, using no more letters than necessary. Following abbrevations are used: A = atrium, V = ventricle, D = dual (atrium and ventricle), S = single (atrium or ventricle), 0 = none, T = triggered, I = inhibited.
Position 1 indicates the chamber or chambers paced: A (atrium), V (ventricle), D (dual), S (single), 0 (none).
Position 2 represents the chamber used for sensing for intrinsic signals: A (atrium), V (ventricle), D (dual), S (single), 0 (none).
Position 3 indicates the mode of response to sensing: T (triggered), I (inhibited), 0 (none), D (dual = triggered and inhibited).
Position 4 represents the rate response: R (rate response), 0 (none).
Position 5 indicates multisite pacing: A (atrium), V (ventricle), D (dual), 0 (none).
