Biochemistry. A salt of lactic acid. It is the terminal product of the anaerobic glycolysis. It is produced by reduction of pyruvate using NADH as an electron donor and catalyzed by the enzyme lactat-dehydrogenase. Lactate is formed in exercising muscles and is deposed by the liver.
