Cell biology. Small organelles of eukaryotic cells that produce energy in form of ATP by oxidation of nutrients. Mitochondria have the ability of self-replication. They have a double membrane, a circular DNA molecule and their own ribosomes.
The last step of cellular respiration takes place in the mitochondrial respiratory chain in the inner mitochondrial membrane of eukaryotes.
