Aim of study (acc. to author)

To examine the possible acute effects of radiofrequency exposure emitted by GSM cellular phones. Auditory brainstem response have been recorded before and after the short-term exposure from the common used handy-devices.

Setup The cellular phone was positioned close to the head while the subjects were lying with their eyes closed in an electrically shielded area.
Additional info The output power and the status of the phone (on/off) were controlled by a computer without the knowledge of the subject.

Wave V latency on the exposed side increased significantly compared to its baseline. A hearing deficiency was found on exposed side only.
