Study type: Medical/biological study (experimental study)

Sex hormone status in male rats after exposure to 50 Hz, 5 mTesla magnetic field med./bio.

Published in: Arch Androl 2006; 52 (5): 363-369

Aim of study (acc. to author)

The question of whether extremely low frequency magnetic fields can affect sex hormone status in male rats should be investigated.

Background/further details

60 male albino rats were used.

Main outcome of study (acc. to author)

The testosterone level did not show significant changes.
Exposure to magnetic field for one week resulted in significant increase in FSH level. Significant increase in LH level was found in magnetic field exposure group for four weeks, while prolactin level showed a significant increase in all magnetic field exposed groups.
