Effects of static and 50 Hz alternating electric fields on superoxide dismutase activity and TBARS levels in guinea pigs.

by Güler G, Seyhan N, Aricioglu A
published in: Gen Physiol Biophys 2006; 25 (2): 177 - 193

Exposure 1:
Main characteristics
frequency:DC/static
type of field: electric field
add. information: vertical field
Exposure setup
exposure source/structure: copper plates
exposure time pattern: 8 h/day for 3 days
chamber details: Animals were placed in wooden cages. Copper plates (50 x 50 x 0.1 cm) spaced 14 cm, were mounted on the top and bottom faces of the cages (50 x 50 x 14 cm) to form parallel plates of a capacitor. Control animals were kept under the same conditions without electric field.
sham: sham exposure was performed
Exposure parameters
parameter:value:type:method:remark:
electric field strength 0.3 kV/m min value measured 0.3, 0.6, 0.8, 1, 1.35, 1.5, 1.8 KV/m

measurement and calculation details: The electric field was determined both by calculation and by measurements using a Narda EFA-300 electric field probe.

Exposure 2:
Main characteristics
frequency:DC/static
type of field: electric field
add. information: horizontal field
Exposure setup
exposure source/structure: same setup as in Exposure 1
exposure time pattern: 8 h/day für 3 days
chamber details: same as in E1 but the plates were mounted on the left and right side of the cage.
sham: sham exposure was performed
Exposure parameters
parameter:value:type:method:remark:
electric field strength 0.3 kV/m min value measured 0.3, 0.6, 0.8, 1, 1.35, 1.5, 1.8 KV/m

Exposure 3:
Main characteristics
frequency:50 Hz
type of field: electric field
add. information: vertical AC field
Exposure setup
exposure source/structure: same setup as in Exposure 1
exposure time pattern: 8 h/day for 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 days
sham: sham exposure was performed
Exposure parameters
parameter:value:method:remark:
electric field strength 1.35 kV/m measured
