General information:
Six conditions were tested for each RF signal: sham exposure and two levels of RF radiation, each alone and together with MX treatment.

Exposure 1:
Main characteristics
frequency:900 MHz
type of field: electromagnetic field
field characteristics: guided field
Modulation
type of modulation: continuous wave (CW)
Exposure setup
exposure source/structure: cellular phone, waveguide
exposure time pattern: continuous for 10 or 30 min
chamber details: The exposure chamber was made of a rectangular waveguide (124 x 248 x 500 mm) and two coax-to-waveguide adapters and was terminated on a matched load.
setup details: Two T-75 cell culture flasks containing 15 ml of medium were inserted into the waveguide. The narrow side of the waveguide and the E field were horizontal, i.e., parallel to the liquid layer (2 mm thick) in the rectangular plastic flask.
sham: sham exposure was performed
add. information: The temperature of the waveguide was maintained at 37.0 ± 0.1°C by thermostatted water circulating in a 30-m-long plastic tube (8 mm inner diameter) wound around the waveguide and kept in contact by wooden boards. A polyurethane foam cover was used for thermal insulation.

SAR 0.3 W/kg mean value measured and calculated
SAR 1 W/kg mean value measured and calculated

measurement and calculation details: The electric field intensities and the related SARs were evaluated numerically at each node of the calculation grid, and the average SAR, its standard deviation, and the coefficient of variation (CV) were also calculated. The CV, usually taken as the ''nonuniformity degree'', was found to be 0.39, and thus slightly exceeding the upper limit of 0.30 suggested in literature [Kuster et al., 2000] due to the large size of the samples. Spot measurements of temperature [Allis et al., 1977] were also taken to validate the numerical simulations of the power deposition pattern, and good agreement was found with measured data. The incident, reflected, and transmitted powers were measured during the actual exposure using bi-directional power sensors connected to a computer.

Exposure 2:
Main characteristics
frequency:900 MHz
type of field: electromagnetic field
field characteristics: guided field
Modulation
type of modulation: pulsed (PW)
add. information: GSM-modulated signal
Exposure setup
exposure source/structure: same setup as in Exposure 1
exposure time pattern: continuous for 10 or 30 min
sham: sham exposure was performed

SAR 0.3 W/kg mean value measured and calculated
SAR 1 W/kg mean value measured and calculated
