Aim of study (acc. to author)

To study if radiofrequency irradiation has a tumor promoting effect, mice with skin tumorigenesis initiated by DMBA (1000 µg/100 µl acetone/mouse on shaved dorsal skin) were exposed to radiofrequency irradiation

One week after DMBA treatment, the animals were randomized into four equal groups of 20 mice each: sham exposed, 849 MHz-, 1,763 MHz-exposed, and TPA-treated (as positive control) groups.

Main outcome of study (acc. to author)

The results suggest that 849 MHz and 1763 MHz radiofrequency irradiations, similar to those emitted from mobile phones, do not have any tumor promoting effect on skin tumor development in DMBA-initiated mice. Skin tumors were observed only in the TPA-treated positive control group.
