Effect of ELF-EMF Exposure on Human Neuroblastoma Cell Line: a Proteomics Analysis med./bio.

Published in: Iran J Cancer Prev 2014; 7 (1): 22-27

Aim of study (acc. to author)

The potential effects of an in vitro exposure of human neuroblastoma cells to a 50 Hz magnetic field on the protein expression should be investigated.

Background/further details

For protein expression analysis, each sample (protein extracts from control and exposed cells) was loaded on three gels and investigated.

Main outcome of study (acc. to author)

Morphological differences were spotted between exposed cells and control during microscopic analysis (no details described). Protein expression analysis showed a significant up-regulation or down-regulation of 189 proteins in the samples of exposed cells compared to control.
The authors conclude that an in vitro exposure of human neuroblastoma cells to a 50 Hz magnetic field has effects on the protein expression which in turn affects cell morphology. However, more studies are necessary to identify the proteins affected and to clarify further relationships.
