Aim of study (acc. to editor)

To study the effect of the maximum permissible level of low intensity electromagnetic irradiation (10 µW/cm², 1 GHz) in Russia (which is much more stringent than in Europe and the USA) on changes of spontaneous motor activity of the protozoa Spirostomum ambiguum.

60 control and 60 exposed spirostomes were investigated after exposure of different durations.

Electromagnetic exposure at the mobile connection frequency (1 GHz) at maximum energy flow density permitted in Russia caused serious functional disorders in the studied protozoa Spirostomum ambiguum: reduction of their spontaneous motor activity. This effect was observed after 30 minutes of exposure and occured in the same manner during the prolonged exposure (independent of time).
