Published in: J Physiol Anthropol Appl Human Sci 2003; 22 (1): 61-63

Aim of study (acc. to editor)

To study the effects of the 1900 MHz electromagentic field emitted from cellular phone on nocturnal melatonin secretion.

Background/further details

Salivary melatonin was collected at 19:00 h and 2:00 h; for 30 min every hour from 19:00 h and 1:00 h the subjects used a cellular telephone continuously.

Exposure

Exposure Parameters
Exposure 1: 1.9 GHz
Exposure duration: intermittent for 30 min/h for 6 h

Exposure 1

Main characteristics
Frequency 1.9 GHz
Type
Exposure duration intermittent for 30 min/h for 6 h
Exposure setup
Exposure source
Distance between exposed object and exposure source 0 cm
Setup Subjects stayed in a climatic chamber with the receiver directly attached to the left ear.
Additional info On one day the receiver emitted an EMF, while on sham day there was no emission. The subjects did not know the exposure condition.
