Study type: Medical/biological study (experimental study)

Effects of exposure to constant or pulsed 50 Hz magnetic fields on body weight and blood glucose concentration of BALB/C mice med./bio.

Published in: Int J Agric Biol 2011; 13 (1): 148-150

Aim of study (acc. to author)

To compare the effects of a constant and pulsed extremely low frequency magnetic field on body weight and blood glucose in mice.

Background/further details

28 female mice were divided into four groups: group 1) exposed to a constant magnetic field for 20 days, group 2) exposed to constant magnetic field for 10 days, group 3) exposed to a pulsed magnetic field for 20 days, and group 4) exposed to a pulsed magnetic field for 10 days.

Main outcome of study (acc. to author)

Exposure to a constant or pulsed magnetic field for 10 or 20 days did not significantly change the body weight of the mice among the groups. In contrast, the constant magnetic field decreased the blood glucose levels of groups 1 and 2 (122.4 and 110.2 mg/dl) in comparison to groups 3 and 4 (138.1 and 129.2 mg/dl).
