Study type: Medical/biological study (experimental study)

Investigation of protein expression in magnetic field-treated human glioma cells med./bio.

Published in: Bioelectromagnetics 2007; 28 (7): 546-552

Aim of study (acc. to author)

This study was performed to investigate possible effects of low frequency magnetic field on protein expression in human glial cells in vitro.

Background/further details

The cells were exposed to magnetic field plus/without epidermal growth factor (EGF, 10 ng/ml). The experiments were replicated twice.

Main outcome of study (acc. to author)

The mean abundance of 10 identified proteins was altered following magnetic field exposure (three proteins increased, seven proteins decreased).
The co-exposure to epidermal growth factor increased the expression of two proteins and decreased the expression of four proteins.
The results indicate that the analysis of differentially expressed proteins in the human glial cells (SF767) may serve as markers for biological changes caused by the exposure to magnetic fields.
