この実験研究は、837MHz、1950MHzの無線周波放射のどちらかの単一周波数ばく露または両者の組み合わせばく露がヒトMCF10A細胞株酸化ストレスを引き起こすか否かを調べた。それぞれの単一ばく露および組み合わせばく露は全て、SAR値4 W/kg、ばく露時間2時間で行った。ばく露中温度上昇はないことを確認した。その結果、細胞内活性酸素種レベル、スーパーオキシドディスムターゼの抗酸化酵素活性還元型/酸化グルタチオン比とも、単一および組み合わせばく露のいずれにおいても統計学的に有意な変化が見られなかったと報告している。

研究目的(著者による)

To investigate whether the exposure to either single or combined radiofrequency fields could induce oxidative stress in human breast epithelium cells.

The following groups were investigated:
1.) sham exposure,
2.) exposure to CDMA signal at 837 MHz,
3.) exposure to W-CDMA signal at 1950 MHz,
4.) combined exposure to CDMA signal at 837 MHz and W-CDMA signal at 1950 MHz and
5.) positive control: 3 Gy gamma radiation.
Cells were investigated at 10, 24 and 48 h following exposure.

Radiofrequency field exposed groups did not show any changes in cell morphology and growth compared to the sham exposed group.
Additionally, there were no changes in the activity of superoxide dismutase, in the level of glutathione/glutathione disulfide and in the level of reactive oxygen species in exposed cells in comparison to sham exposed cells.
In contrast, ionizing radiation exposed cells showed evident changes in all measured biological endpoints.
The authors conclude that neither single nor combined exposures to a radiofrequency field elicit oxidative stress in human breast epithelium cells under the examined exposure conditions.
