skin effect

German: Skin-Effekt
Japanese: 表皮効果

Electricity. The tendency of alternating currents to flow near the surface of the conductor, thus being restricted to a small part of the total cross-sectional area. This effect increases the resistance and becomes more marked as the frequency rise. Solid conductors are replaced by thinwalled tubes or a number of thin, insulated wire strands woven together.
