To explore the in vivo short-term effects of the electromagnetic fields of mobile phones on auditory brainstem responses in human.

Background/further details

18 healthy right-handed adult volunteers participated. Click acoustic stimuli were presented with 60 and 80 dB nHL (=normal hearing level) intensities.

Main outcome of study (acc. to author)

The exposure to electromagnetic field for 15 minutes did not cause significant difference in the latencies of the auditory brainstem response obtained at both 60 and 80 dB nHL stimulus level.
In conclusion, acute short-term exposure at 900 MHz does not alter auditory nerve electrical conduction.
